A Letter from a Wolverine to a Buckeye: Don't Forget About Me

A heartfelt letter from a Michigan Wolverine to the Buckeye faithful.

Old Friends:

Hey, its been awhile since we spent some time together. I mean, maybe its just me, but what I'm trying to say is: I miss you all. You never write, you never call, you barely have the energy to mock me. As I sat in Eddie George's Bar in downtown Columbus this Saturday and watched my beloved Wolverines play their worst football since 1967, I couldn't help but hear the apathy in your half-hearted boos. As the announcer screamed in shock when K.C. Lopata missed the game-tying field goal, your eyes glazed over, only to refocus on the Illinois-Minnesota game. Here we are, decked out in our arrogant new national championship encrusted jerseys, getting our asses kicked by a MAC school in Ann Arbor...and you're calmly drinking Bud Light, lazily eying the historic Illinois-Minnesota rivalry. I'm confused, I mean...I thought we had something.

Here I am, always thinking about the past! But, I mean, you can't deny the time we spent together...right? : ) Remember that time Craig Krenzel beat UM in 2002 to clinch a national championship appearance and 15 of you broke through my dorm door to joyously celebrate, bruising my sternum in the process? How bout when 30 of you spontaneously broke into "We Don't Give a Damn About the Whole State of Michigan" as I was attending a party in Kirtland and you found out I was from Michigan? And I won't ever forget that look you gave me when I walked into Tasi for brunch, wearing a Maize and Blue shirt...You smiled and said, "What the f*ck do you want?" Sigh...

Listen, okay? It's been a tough year for us...but you can't just be caught up with a Spread HD rivalry or Rose Bowl dreams. You're so flighty! Just because that Team Up North is 2-4 and a Big 10 afterthought doesn't mean you can brush me off! Hell, we were playing classic games before the BCS was even a twinkle in Jim Delaney's eye. We were scuffling before college football was even started! Where's your sense of history and passion? Michigan Week is coming up in a month, aren't you already planning your annual "Michigan Bash"? Can't wait to hear from you...

The Letter from Wolverine to a Buckeye...

Really enjoyed the U of M point of view from a Columbus bar! So they couldn’t even be bothered with Toledo Rocket cheers…

Does this mean the Buckeye fans are looking way ahead in the schedule? I hope that’s also true for the team. Then the Spartans might be able to end this coming Saturday afternoon with a “W”. If that happens the Buckeyes might pay more attention to Michigan Week.
