That sound you hear...
... is whatever wind was left in the collective sails of Golden Gopher football fans quickly diminishing.
From Marcus Fuller at the St Paul Pioneer Press:
"University of Minnesota standout wide receiver Eric Decker has a sprained left arch in his foot that might need surgery and will miss the rest of the regular season, Gophers coach Tim Brewster said today.
It's still possible Decker would be available if the Gophers make it to a bowl game. They are 4-4 (2-3 in the Big Ten) and need two more wins to be bowl eligible.
Decker, a senior, leads the Gophers in receiving with 50 catches for 758 yards and 5 touchdowns. Earlier this week, he was announced as one of 10 semifinalists for the Biletnikoff Award given to the nation's top receiver."
Two words come to mind...
OUCH!
And being as this is a family progrum, the other I can't repeat.

I'd like Nelson Muntz you on this one
But seeing as how Adam Robinson (who was projected to be the 3rd/4th RB going into the fall but the starter due to injuries to everyone above him) just went down for the season, I’d say we’re in a somewhat similiar boat. Gonna be a lot of teams limping into the finish. Sucks, I really liked watching Decker play.

Agreed
Decker is just awesome to watch. I was actually shocked when I heard he was out saturday. To watch him was the only reason I turned that game on.

Tough losses....
….both for Minnesota with Decker and with Iowa with Robinson and Richardson. Hate to see guys having great seasons lost to injury.
Does anyone else look at the remaining schedule for likely/potential Big Ten bowl teams and see the Big Ten as being the Big 3 (Iowa, OSU, PSU) all at between 9-3 and 10-2, and everyone else (Wisconsin, Minny, MSU, Michigan, Northwestern) at between 7-5 and 6-6?
I mean where does Minnesota get more than 2 wins out of its last 4 games (MSU, Illinois, South Dakota State, and Iowa)? As a Northwestern fan, I believe anything is possible, but it’s gonna take at least one upset to get to 7 wins (Penn State, @Iowa, @Illinois, Wisconsin), right? Indiana (4-4, @Iowa, Wisconsin, @Penn State, Purdue) and Purdue (3-5, @Wisconsin, @Michigan, Michigan State, @Indiana) have very little shot of getting to 6 wins…..heck, even Michigan, Michigan State and Wisconsin could have difficulty getting to anything more than 6 or 7 wins….
Seems like we’re gonna have an interesting finish to the year, at least among the also-rans behind the Big 3….

Interesting finish,
but I think Wisconsin hits at least 8 wins, more likely 9. Perhaps 10.
And… yikes on Decker…. are the Gophers ever going to score a point again?

I suppose you're right...
….8 or 9 wins seems pretty likely. But that’s assuming that A) Purdue doesn’t keep up their strong play, B) Wisconsin gets past a much tougher than last year Michigan team that matches up defensively pretty well against the Badgers, and C) my Wildcats don’t post an upset (and Wisconsin has always had trouble with the Cats)…..
I think they beat Indiana and Hawaii…..then lose 2 of the other 3 to get to 8 wins.

I tend to agree
I think Wisky’s bye week came at absolutely the best time for them. Back-to-back disappointing losses could have been the beginning of a late-season slide for Wisconsin (as happened last year after a strong start). I think the break will allow Wisconsin to regroup and realize the losses are behind them, not worry about it and just play like they were. Other than Michigan, I don’t see anyone remaining on your schedule that looks that daunting (though Purdue might be on an emotional upswing, and Michigan could be on a downward spiral).
