3 Immutable Truths About Saturday's Michigan Spring Game:

• Frosh QB Tate Forcier looked better than anything Michigan threw out last year QB wise. 10-13, 140 yards or so, lots of scrambling quickness, quick release.
• The first team offense performed one thousand times better than last years offense during the Spring Game.
• The concepts of the RichRod spread looked to finally be on semi-full display. Witness the zone blocking on the outside quick passes...the read option actually scaring the defense into respecting the QB run.
  

After the 245 Michigan blogs have written extensive reviews (three of 'em...MGo, MBN, MSC) of the Spring Game, there really isn't much more I can add about Saturday's happenings. So instead of regurgitating old news, I want to address some rebuttals that are sure to surface regarding the perceived success of RichRod's troops.

• It's the Spring Game! True. But UM's problems surfaced last year in the Spring Game, a turnover filled shit fest that accentuated the struggles which would eventually waylay Michigan's season. So anything cohesive offensive wise is a huge improvement over last year.
• Tate Forcier is small! True. Calista Forcier is the catchy Eleven Warriors nickname jabbing at the lithe frame of this 180 lb quarterback . The nickname doesn't exactly fit (Forcier doesn't rhyme with or resemble Flockhart that much), but you get the point. Anyone who saw the undersized Sam McGuffied get squashed on a kick return in Columbus last year knows that a smaller player won't always make it in the physical Big 10. Is Forcier different? 190 lb Pat White played 4 years in the RichRod system, taking hits from teams like Oklahoma, Louisville (when they were a Top 10 team), and Georgia...so the smallish QB can succeed in CFB.
• All those big runs and TD's were against the 2nd Team Defense! True. I'm sure the scary linebacking corps of Michigan State and Penn State will have a little more hurt to throw at the Maize and Blue offensive attack. But the little details in Michigan's execution should warm any Wolverine fans heart. The wide receivers executed perfect form blocks on the outside, showing an understanding of how to run the quick edge passes that RichRod made effective at West Virginia. And Forcier showed comfort with the read option and the quick passes which he will be asked to complete at a high percentage.
