Did the Gophers Get Extra Cash for This?

You should know that the Minnesota Golden Gophers opened their new home, TCF Bank Stadium, on Saturday with a win over the Air Force.  It was a great day for the team, the school, and the league.

What we haven't talked about is the influence that TCF Bank has over the Minnesota program now.  Apparently, not only did the team sell the bank the stadium naming rights, but also uniform branding rights as well.

Confused?  Here is what Minnesota decided to wear on Saturday.

Yikes!  But, after playing for a while, here is what the typical Minnesota player looked like with sweat stains.  Notice the orange stripe at his waist.

And here is the TCF Bank checking card.

Coincidence or the greatest corporate marketing scheme ever to occur at the opening of a Big Ten stadium? You decide.

I saw that

They need to do something about the sweat marks, I mean the jersey already looks like a sweat stained rag, now it looks like a sweat stained rag plus more sweat stains. Ugh.

Was it sweat or...

was the jersey made up of two different materials that reflected the light differently? I think it was the latter because I noticed the “sweat stains” even before warmups began. At first I thought it was sweat stains too, but the closer I looked at it they were in the same place on every jersey in about the same amount.

I like the new uniforms.

No, seriously. They’re understated (in respect of the decorative flourishes) and balanced. They’re Gopher yellow. They have the little horse collar image for humor. I like them.

This is a post without XX-0 snark mentioned once. Seriously.
