Welcome to the Greg Paulus Challenge: Gentlemen, Start Your Defensive Ends

As you know, Paulus and his Syracuse brethren will be playing Minnesota, Penn State, and Northwestern, in that order. Admittedly, the Orange are behind the eight ball, starting a first year quarterback and underdogs in each game. But who says we can't have some fun with the fact that your defensive end might be leveling the most polarizing/annoying college basketball player for the last 4 years? Introducing...

The Greg Paulus Challenge

Contestants? The three aforementioned Big Ten teams.

Criteria? The official statistical rules are below, but the concept is clear. Whichever team smacks Paulus around the best, wins.

Prize? I send a picture of Greg Paulus (below), autographed by the writers of TRE, to the Daily Gopher, BSD, or Lake The Posts. Onto the point system that I created this morning.

Point System

Sack of Paulus: 5 points. I feel this should be a valuable statistic, plus the idea that members of this earth are allowed, nay, encouraged to hit the former Blue Devil is kind of amazing.

Interception of Paulus: 3 points. Apparently he throws a pretty damn good spiral, so good luck reeling in that sucker.

Returning Interception for a TD: 10 points. Awesome.

Someone laying out GP while an INT is being returned: 15 points. Awe inspiring.

Incomplete pass thrown by Paulus: 1 point.

Paulus throws for TD: -5 points.

Paulus runs for a TD: -7 points. Are you kidding me? You would allow this? For shame.

Paulus runs for 50 yards+ (total): -10 points.

Paulus passes for 100 yards+: -5 points

Paulus passes for 200 yards+: -10 points. Really? Really??!!

Hit on Paulus that ends up on Sportscenter Top 10: 25 points. I don't really watch ESPN a whole lot, so I might need to be alerted.

Your team wins: 20 points.

Your team loses: -50 points. Of course if you lose to 'Cuse, you should probably be more worried about your football team than this challenge.

Awesome

My money is on BSD winning the pic, but I fully expect Mr. Paulus to go 0-3.

It never gets to be easy

Okay, that may have been irrational halftime exuberance

Still, the kid (and the Orange) looked like a competent major-conference team today. We haven’t seen that out of Syracuse in a while.
