you were right

You said that Minnesota would need the ball in Mar’Quis Gray’s hands in order to win. You didn’t specify that the ball would be better in his hands than dropped on the Iowa State 15 yard line.

I thought it was implied.

An open letter to the Big Ten:

On the off-chance we make another bowl game in the next couple years, send us Northwestern and we promise to make up for the Minnesota thing.

Sincerely,

Iowa State

Might need to check the rules, but ..

.. I think you can always turn down a Bowl invitation. It might be something to consider the next time Gophers make it to 6-6.

That's all you have to say?

You’re sorry? Maybe you should be a little more contrite and offer to do something, like give up Big 10 membership and offer to join the MAC, or Conference USA, and we’ll call it good.

But we’re WAY past sorry, Minnesota.

As an Iowa fan

I want to thank Minnesota for extending Brewster’s contract.

Brewster looks like he hasn't

shat in five days in that picture.

Ugh.

Can we get a Gopher writer on this site with some balls? jerdogg1 is a whiny embarrassment to my school.

If anyone should be apologizing, it should be the Big Ten teams that underachieved and didn’t even make a bowl game.

Not all Big Ten teams are going to make a bowl game

Some teams just suck. It doesn’t necessarily mean they underachieved, it’s just that their level of talent is inferior.

But I gotta agree with you on the apology. Why apologize for a game your team lost by one when Minnesota was only favored by 2.5? Iowa State did have the best win of both those teams.

Which part is whiny and embarrassing?

The fact that I’m a fan of a football team who wasn’t very good this year and backed it’s way into a bowl game in which it was completely outplayed, against a team that it absolutely should have beaten?
Or the fact that I’m actually willing to write about it?
And please, get serious… would you honestly have wanted Indiana, Purdue & Michigan playing in bowl games this year?

against a team that it absolutely should have beaten?

Iowa State was a 6-6 team, so was Minnesota. Iowa State had the best win of either team. Minnesota was only a 2.5 point favorite. If you’re looking for evidence that Minnesota should have been the heavy favorite against Iowa State, keep looking, because there is none.

would you honestly have wanted Indiana, Purdue & Michigan playing in bowl games this year?

Nope, Minnesota deserved to be in the bowls over all those teams you just mentioned. My point was that unless some mathematical anomaly occurs, not all Big 10 teams can be bowl-eligible.

perceptions

We (or I and JerDogg) expect certain things from Minnesota. We don’t get them and it upsets us. Simple as that.

Certain things

Like a trophy that seems to belong to Michigan, no matter where the game is played?
Or a shutout loss to an Iowa team without a QB?

Or a win over a bad Illinois team?
Oops.

The solution is simple. BEAT IOWA.

Duly noted

And I’ll concede that jerdogg has been a Minnesota fan much longer than I have, so the cynicism is somewhat understandable. I don’t think Minnesota was completely outplayed at all, however. The Gophers controlled most of that game and should have won if not for Gray’s unfortunate fumble at the end. I agree with Pete – an apology isn’t necessary for that performance. Except from Weber. I’m sure jerdogg will agree with me there.

Minnesota beat some good teams this year, and if the Gophers can find someone at QB who can consistently make the routine throws, they’ll make some noise next season.

Finally, as a graduate of Minnesota’s law school, I enjoy this site very much. Keep up the good work.

WHAT exactly do you expect now?

i just happened on The Rivalry Esq. today and thought it might be a cool bookmark. after clicking on a link marked minnesota (expecting to read informative and insightful thoughts about the Golden Gophers) and i find this; something i would expect to read at BHGP or Buckyville, not coming from minnesota fans.

i do hope when i do a search i will find a similar post from Mr. dogg (who has been a fan for so long and so has apparently higher expectations[?]) after the 2006 insight bowl meltdown.

Minnesota is an embarrassment to my conference.

Before you respond, let me remind you: Brian Cook called me smug, which makes me the Obama of smugness. I'm basically Smugbama.
